I don’t know how often you can expect weekend blogging from us, but I’m sure it will occur more as the season progresses. We did give you a dose of it today though, with Rider’s upset over reigning SEC champion Mississippi State.
So in honor of Rider’s early-season trouncing of a ranked team, today’s Site of The Day is Keepin’ Track of the MAAC, a blog “dedicated entirely to Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference basketball news, features, insights, perspective and opinions.”
So go check out that site, and enjoy the rest of your weekend, folks.
Well, that was quick. The reigning SEC champions — and many people’s sexy pick to win the conference again this season — started this season on the wrong foot. Friday night the Bulldogs lost to Rider. Yes, Rider. Your eyes do not deceive you.
The Bulldogs, who returned all five starters from last year’s team, came into the season ranked 18th in the AP poll and 19th in the Coaches poll. But that didn’t phase the Broncs, as they knocked off Miss. St 88-74 behind 21 points each from Mike Ringgold and Novar Gadson (who might just earn a spot on the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference All-Name Team).
The game marked the first major upset of the (very) young season, and can best be summed up by this quote from Miss. St’s Kodi Augustus:
This is Rider. [We’re] preseason ranked No. 18 in the country. We’re not supposed to lose our first game, home opener. Wow. It’s crazy.
Yup. Crazy seems like the right word for it.
